Not enough protein?

Since I have recently decided to become vegetarian I keep getting the same question when I tell people of my new diet. “Where do you get your protein from?” It is a huge misconception that the only good sources of protein are meats.

With that being sad I did start off as a vegetarian on the wrong foot. I did not  put much thought to where my protein was coming from when I started. I just went of my vague knowledge that veggies have plenty of protein too and assumed that was enough. Well, after about two weeks of not eating meat I noticed that I was very low on energy and tired throughout the day. The next time I was asked about protein I asked myself “AM I getting enough protein?” so I looked up vegetarian sources of protein. Apparently my lack of energy WAS due to the lack of protein, so I got myself a list of protein rich foods so that I can ensure to include at least one of them with each meal and snack.

I have made a list of the foods rich in protein and amino acids that I am the most excited to eat more of:

Nuts and seeds:

1)      Pistachios (Finally, Peter will let me buy them more often!)

2)      Cashews (Unsalted of course)

3)      Pumpkin seeds (Great on top of cereal!)

Dairy:

1)      Cottage cheese

2)      Ricotta cheese

3)      Mozzarella cheese (cheese sticks!)

4)      Yogurts (especially Greek. Yum-yum)

Vegetables and legumes:

1)      Spinach (I already put spinach on everything lol)

2)      Brussel sprouts

3)      Broccoli

4)      Navy beans

5)      Asparagus (roasted with some shredded Parmesan cheese (also a source of protein))

Cereals and grains:

1)      Whole wheat pasta

2)      Egg noodles (Pho!)

3)      Brown rice

4)      Whole wheat bread

Also some dried fruits such as Apricots and peaches as snacks can help me increase my protein intake

I might look into getting some protein and make smoothies and shakes with it to fill in any gaps that I might have.

Apparently I still have a lot to learn about my new lifestyle. Just picking the meat off my plate was not enough  and I will keep improving.

Fall Room Project

We are getting into my favorite time of year! Fall and Winter are my two favorite seasons. I say both because I can’t pick between one and the other.  Since we are entering Fall let’s focus on that today. Here in Houston after the brutal Summers going into highs of 80-75 degrees F is like a blessing. Towards the end of Fall it does get a little colder, but I would rather take the cold over the heat any day. During the Summer I always say you can only take off so many clothes. Lol What I love about the cooler weather is layering;  the colder it gets, the more layers you can wear until you achieve that warm, cozy perfect temperature.

To get ready for this change I have decided to do a room/closet makeover. For the past week I have been cleaning out my closet, my make up vanity and filing all my paperwork. By the time I am finished my goal is to have a room free of clutter and to have everything organized and easy to find. I am being ruthless with everything unnecessary I find as I want to rid myself of the clutter.

I am a pack rat and so I have a hard time throwing things out in the off chance that I might one day need them. This is the main reason why my room became so crowded. It’s full of stuff that I never use but can’t throw away.

To help me I bought a couple of inexpensive tote boxes at Walmart. They are pretty roomy and only $7 each. When I find something I just can’t throw away I pack it in them. I have one for miscellaneous items, and one for clothes I never wear.

I am also filling up make up bags with items I hardly ever use and throwing out the items that are too old. I’ve only kept on my vanity the items I actually use. Doing this is the best way to make room and working on a de-cluttered area is refreshing.

I will post some updates pictures once my Room project is complete. I know I will feel refreshed and much, much happier.

Polly Update

Hi, all! I’ve missed you! I, like Joyce, have been very busy lately.  There is school, work and it is marching season, so I am always working studying or volunteering at my sister’s school. Even as I write this I am at work and have taken a few minutes to update you. I have been vlogging some, so if you want to check out my latest vlogs, here they are:

Some new things:

1)      I am now working at a different location from where I was before, so I no longer see Joyce as often 😦 But fear not, we still talk SO much, we text and Snap on a daily basis and discuss new channel strategies all the time. It’s like we love each other ❤ lol

2)      As I mentioned before high school marching/football season is going on and since my sister is in the marching band all my weekends are spent helping at the football games. It is so fun, I love it! I love seeing the kids’ enthusiasm and all the hard work they put into their show. It really makes it very rewarding 🙂

3)      I have discovered cookie butter. You can tell this is a big deal for me since I deemed it important enough to put it on here. I LOVE it. Someone at work brought a jar in and I have so far tried it on everything; bananas, apples, celery, pretzels, toast; it’s all good! The only way I have found to not be crazy about it is in a cookie butter and jelly sandwich. That is way too sweet for my taste

4)      I am taking two online classes this semester. I have been keeping up with them well, but it is so time consuming that I need to be consistent to avoid falling behind. I like getting stuff out of the way as soon as possible so I am powering through so I can get ahead 🙂

Are you pregnant?

So I promised an update, lets begin.

I am a RT (Respiratory Therapist) who just finished all my boards over the summer 🙂 Now looking for a job each is a job in itself, but I am a determined cookie and know that the Lord has something great for me. I have to remind myself daily something is coming. I thank God I have a job and at the moment it is going well.

I am finishing up my bachelors. WOOT WOOT. I should be done next summer. As well as working, school, looking for a job… I am studying for the MCAT. I hope to take the prep class in Feb 2014 and take the test in late spring. You would think I am super busy. However, I have been taking a lazy approach to life. I think I am kinda of tried of the hustle of life, until this weekend. I was watching some videos on YouTube and April and Justin TV and Corey Vidal from ApprenticE really put some fire under my butt. I realized if I don’t have that fire I take my sweet time and other aspects of my life suffer, like my health and spiritual life.

THINGS are about to change.

I update my calendar so I have scheduled myself to be busy hourly. My health is back on top, working out more. Consistence is the name of the game. Diving into my daily Bible studies.  Academically I want to be on top, so I am put in more effort. Lastly, our YouTube channels are starting to pick again. EXCITING 🙂

Consistence. Consistence . Consistence . Consistence . I need to stress this to myself.  I really want this change.

I bet your wondering so “Joyce, are you pregnant?” Well NO. I was basically asked today by a stranger if I was going to the maternity ward ( I was in the hospital’s parking lot). Gee thanks lady for pointing out my non pregnant belly. NEVER ASK A WOMAN IF SHE IS PREGNANT, its not nice. LOL. I know my belly is a little big so I really can’t hate of the lady for asking, but still. I am kinda of laughing to myself thinking about it. ANYWAYS, I cant stress enough that I need to start working out MORE, which I will.

That is my quick update.

Mad at myself

Hello World

I am writing this and I am kinda of mad at myself. I KNOW i have  been SLACKING on blogging and editing videos. WHY? Life happened. LAME excuse. BIG FAT LAME EXCUSE. This is going to change. I am known for not finishing any projects i start. I have invested so much time and energy into this project that i REFUSE to give up. I need to be consistent.  That is why I am mad at myself.  It is not only this YouTube project, its my health and spiritual journey that seems to have taken a backseat. I am better than this. I can offer so much more. I have been sleeping too much. Time to wake up and tackle life head on. I know this is my MAJOR issue that I am realizing that NEEDS to change. I can accomplish so much if i remain consistent. I need to pray about this and seriously ask myself if this is the life I want I need to show it in my actions. I have a major project that I want to undertake soon. I need to become organized and consistent. I will be working on those two things this month, I will start this weekend and develop a schedule that I will STICK to this month.

I have found that I am a passionate, affectionate person. When I love something or someone I make sure I love it with all my heart. I cherish everything that is important in my life. For example TEA. I love tea so much at the moment. English Tea to be exact. LOL. My friends often joke that I love everything. LOL. I can’t help what I like, it comes with the territory. I have a big heart. So thinking about only 15 of my favorite things in the world is hard but I did my best. Here we go 🙂
1. God- I truly believe that I service an awesome Creator and a loving Father
2. Family – I have an incredible family. I am blessed. I secretly believe my family is better than yours. LOL. jk
3. YOUTUBE – WOW. I seriously can’t believe I’m finally following my dream and making our YouTube channel reality J it makes me so happy.
4. Romance/Love – I am all about love. ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE
5. Boots- Winter is my favorite time of year, and I love my boots, I can’t wait to buy more this year J
6. Food- all kinds of food minus bacon. LOL. that being said i like normal food, or as normal as “american” food you can get
7. Music- Dance party. LOL
8. Books- I enjoy reading, I have an active imagination and reading lets me dream BIG
9. SnapChat- My favorite app in the whole wide world, other than the Bible app.
10.Boys- LOL!! Let’s not go here today
11.Science- Anatomy and Physiology. The human body is so fascinating, it’s kind of sexy. You think that’s weird? LOL
12.TV- since I was a child, if I was missing look for me in front of the TV
13.Doctor Who – Do I really need to explain this one
14.Sherlock – Do I need to explain???
15.Makeup- I love practice different techniques and buying new products
